A few weeks ago I just went ahead and jumped into a new game of Anomaly Gamma (let's disregard all the installation troubleshooting and cockups here).
I start off with a short intro bit.
Last time I even touched a Stalker game was way way back in 2021. What's more, this is my very first time to try anything Anomaly-related. In other words, the zone muscle memory that I've built over the years/games/mods, is either fading or proving unhelpful.
Which brings me to the premise of this run: starting off clueless and gradually building up skills just by playing the game (i.e. my usual). I can see how this premise seems to confuse some viwers. Then again, some of the seemingly eager-to-help-even-if-a-bit-pushy comments that I initially took in good faith, turned out a prelude to some weird recurring needyspeak (plus, closer reading made the helpful parts look kinda algorythm-y so I can't really tell if that commenter even plays Anomaly).
Having learned that I need to unlearn my existing body-sense and weapon-sense, I carry on in the spirit of "failure is instructional" and practice by dying. (Boy, the character feels squishy!)
Initially I'm also overwhelmed by all the inventory shit (but also know that the best way to master that is to keep failing forward).
After a bit I've built enough confidence to step outside the starting map (Yantar, in my case). Right away, the Wild Territory burner tunnel turns out a huge annoyance (anomaly placement in there seems the same as in other games which further amplifies the annoyance when I bellyflop over and over).
Concern over basic provisions overrides the concern over my squishy status, so I take on some simpler jobs in addition to the science ass-pain.
More and more burner tunnel as I go Back and forth between Rostok maps and Yantar. At this point I'm pushing the night hours IRL, hence the title.
In this longer episode I finally complete my science rookie mission arc and thus end my first Gamma session.
More soon, find the whole playlist over here.
Also - check out the somewhat busier Estonian side of my blogging (in videos, the auto-generated English subs seem quite adequate).
