Co-piloting ChaosNova: busy summer with Seeker edits and Dysmaton

I shall exploit the header space to boost the signal of our GM's Gofundme campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/blueberrycreekrecovery

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Between all the work and some play, Knux and I lent some of our time to a game prototype that Chris "Silver Spook" was putting together. Check out the brief news-update at our website, look at some mid-making posts at our forum, and read more about the project at the Silver Spook Gaming blog.

Check out Christian's youtube channel as well, and keep an eye out for game creation livestreams!

So I have been playing ... (104). Neofeud.

I shall exploit the header space to boost the signal of our GM's Gofundme campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/blueberrycreekrecovery

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While swamped in the editing process of upcoming book "Seeker", I've snuck in some game-time with a colourful point-and-click from an indie-dev we befriended via Twitter - Christian a.k.a. Silver Spook Gaming.
Check out Christian's youtube channel and blog, and read the good Neofeud news on IndieDB!

Here is my play process, up to approximately mid-point of the game.

Co-piloting Chaos Nova: storytime for Blueberry Creek, vol3

During my winterly editor-expedition to Benefleet, Knux and I picked up a distress signal from our friend, co-author, and GM - Kieyotie. In an attempt to carry the signal even farther into the interstellar vasts, we're recording ourselves reading stories and fragments from ChaosNova forums and universe. (Some of those stories are up for reading at the website, some are not.)

---------------------------------------

This is the third and last (so far) round-up of story-reading videos. First I go ahead and read another chapter from "Seeker", this time from the second half of the book that hasn't been publicly shared anywhere until now. Then I read another post from forum-roleplay-in-progress - featuring the same character introduced in "Space Junk".

Co-piloting Chaos Nova: storytime for Blueberry Creek, vol2

During my winterly editor-expedition to Benefleet, Knux and I picked up a distress signal from our friend, co-author, and GM - Kieyotie. In an attempt to carry the signal even farther into the interstellar vasts, we're recording ourselves reading stories and fragments from ChaosNova forums and universe. (Some of those stories are up for reading at the website, some are not.)

---------------------------------------

This is the second round-up of story-reading videos. First, there's Knux reading "Picking up Trash" (along with a behind-the-scenes cat appearance); then I read a sample chapter from "Seeker". After that, a longer behind-the-scenes video showing the on-site editing that takes place between "Seeker" bits.

This is the first round-up of story-reading videos, starting with announcements; after that I will read an excerpt from "Space Junk", and Knux reads a recent short story "Salvage mission".

Off-world adventures at Benfleet base #3: a rally call for cavalry

Last summer, during my countryside stay, I hosted my writing partner/ gaming buddy Knux for some weeks. Besides posting a bunch of silly videos (here, here, here, here, and here), we also got a bunch of work done, pushing "Seeker" closer to release (well half of it anyway). Come autumn, it was time for another push, also I'd been plotting a retaliatory visit. Fast forwards to December, and here I am, a few timezones and centigrades off, digging into "Seeker's" final chapters, plotting world domination and perhaps some additional visits.

Our GM/ChaosNova universe co-founder needs help pulling his family through the winter, and we're boosting the signal of this distress beacon! (This isn't about purchasing tinsel or treating oneself with "something nice", this is about covering electrical bills and addressing frozen water pipes.)

Read about the whole matter in their Gofundme page.

Also - and I cannot stress this enough - WE FOUND A HORSE!

ED:

Also-also, check out our Shadowrun sessions where KT (i.e. the GM)  rains explosions, amnesia, and naked sledge-rides upon the crew:

So I have been playing... (53). Zone binge encore.

My week in town that spawned the material for this post, and this one, stretched a little longer than scheduled. I used that extra day to record another batch of Oblivion Lost, delving into the NPP2 level with shameless glee.

Here's the starter episode of that extra session.

From Zone, with fanfiction - spreading word on "Snork Bait"

[UPDATE June 12, 2018:
Zavtrak Snorka/ Snork bait has a new home at Karl's freshly built campfire. Now presented as a series of linked posts (per chapter), the old PDF links are retired.]

------------- Original Post-----------------

This post's primary objective is to spread word on a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fanfiction novel Snork Bait. Here's a bunch of secondary objectives: to toot my own horn, namely, my involvement in the book's editing-developing process; display a series of drawings made in response to the story updates in the forums back in the day (again, by me-me-me!); and last but not least, add to the channels to access the book itself.

Here's a pretty picture to start things off. And a brief video. The bulkier stuff comes after the jump.

Co-piloting Chaos Nova (1). Magic moments!

Vaguely around Earth Occidental Standard Year 2014, the drift of interwebs lead my paths into collaboration course with Chaos Nova universe. I have since had the pleasure to dive into their space opera RPG writing process, dispensing unsolicited advice about universe, life, and everything in the process. Once settled in the "writers' room" and comms all set up, I'd start occasionally joining in for gameplay livestreaming too, either in co-op, or just shout-along. This here is one of those occasions.

My prior collectible card experience was pretty much limited to watching Hands of Fate (extended) over and over. Okay, and I had also played through some tutorial assignments in digital Magic, and ran some explanation rounds about overall mechanics with KnuxV1 - the opposing hand in the upcoming match, and poked around in the game a bit more on my own.

Because he's a flippin' ninja!

This is dedicated to all those tiny plasticine ninjas that my cousin and I once made just to methodically stab them with dozens of elegant bone swords salvaged from the lunch fish soup. (And to all those ninja movies I had not seen but could vividly visualize by my cousin's narrations.)

I happened to watch this today. The creators request spreading the word. I'm absolutely delighted to!

P.S.
I don't know how they do it but every time I ponder on something ninja-related, I find out that IO9 has just posted something relevant: like this.

Play-learn-work

When I wrote the other day how this winter has seen my do-anything-at-all-capacity shrinking to the size of a scrawny mouse turd, I left out some parts. Namely, how (besides the task to keep some basic mundane routines going) I was also able to maintain the desire to play and see my cognitive abilities gradually recover in the process. I might take the time to write about the games involved in that process as well, but there's something even more exciting going on.

For nearly a month now, I have had the joy and privilege to contribute to the Stalker: The Lost Alpha project as a tester. In the eyes of the world this may not seem as much, but for me personally, it is an immensely valuable step in the path of my long-term objective/ dream of creating games. While unleashing my wilde learning-by-doing urge and trying to hunt down the most exotic and elusive errors, I have also had the chance to harness my instructional and/ or copywriting expertise to bug others with unsolicited advice.

The power of pee meets the power of smart kids

I'm supposed to an adult. Yet I involuntarily respond with pure giggly joy when meeting dribble and doodoo jokes (not to mention dongs scribbled on the wall, boobs that don't belong and random flying penises).
I while ago I even made this little spiritual reminder (a reference to a bunch of inside jokes with too much obscurity and extra background to repeat or even remember).

At the same time, I've discovered that I can harness this "inappropriate" glee in the learning process (for myself at least) - dull or hard to grasp information finds its way into the this-makes-sense-circles when some jolly bodily functions bring it along to the perception party and help it mingle.

And then I read news like this: io9.com/5958887/oh-this-just-some-teenage-girls-from-africa-who-invented-a-urine-powered-generator - and want to applaud. First out of the sheer immature glee, and second to celebrate the curiosity and smarts and the dash of mad science these girls have.
I don't know how well the generator works, I don't know the amount of giggling gone into the invention process - but the fact that they came up with the idea makes the world seem a better place.

The Power of Remix

It just so happens that some of my most favourite things out in the Wild Web are the result of remixing/ mix'n'matching/ interpreting other things. It also happens that sometimes they get removed from the circulation. Better watch quickly then!

For me, these three are the prime example fo how a good remix is far, far more than the sum of its parts.

And finally: Kirby's "Everything is a Remix" (pt4).
"Our system of law doesn't acknowledge the derivative nature of creativity. Instead, ideas are regarded as property, as unique and original lots with distinct boundaries. But ideas aren't so tidy. They're layered, they're interwoven, they're tangled. And when the system conflicts with the reality... the system starts to fail."

Learning of my unoriginality...

... and discovering a world of wonders in the process. While still under the profound influence of having read Zero History, I was once toying around with one of my forum profiles. While trying to find short but definitive phrases to go with the username, I figured that my "genre of being" was best described by "ecopunk". Today, I was toying with the idea that what if I could add that aspect/ flavour/ facet to this place as well. And in the process found out that there already was such a place, fully dedicated to "that aspect".

I'm only starting to dig in, but the "real" Ecopunk site seems one helluva resource... source. Check them out!

ED: Here's another great post :) (The one about idiots and money, I mean.)

Appreciating the Other Crafty Buggers

There are a few things I so very deeply appreciate in this life:
industrial junk, sheer beauty, from-broken-junk-to-chaos-to-order repair narratives, demonstration of skill and clever medium use. This video has them all.
